Award Descriptions

Department of Public Safety Citizen Award

Awarded to a non-departmental member who has provided significant and valuable service to University Security and Fire Prevention Services and/or participated in programming or special projects

Department of Public Safety Staff Awards

Commendation Award - Performed in a manner that has significantly improved the Division
Distinguished Service Award - Awarded to a Division member who has routinely performed in such a manner as to significantly improve a Division/Department operation or in such manner as to bring pronounced credit up him or herself and the Department.
Merit Award (PD) - Member who has performed a duty at some risk to his or her own life or safety; performed routine duty with such excellence, diligence and at some personal inconvenience
Perfect Attendance Award - Presented to an employee who has used no ill time in the past twelve months.
Team Award - Presented to a group of members who have performed a service to this Department and/or community which has significantly improved the quality of the work environment

Employee of the Year/Officer of the Year Award for both Division of Police and Division of University Security and Fire Prevention Services

Presented to non-supervisory University Law Enforcement Officers or University Security and Fire Prevention Officers for consistently performing his or her duties in a professionally acceptable manner and demonstrated favorable distinction from others. Continually strives to be better informed; seeks self-improvement opportunities. Special acts of service or those acts receiving recognition.

Department of Public Safety Employee of the Year Award

Regular employees in the Department of Public Safety are eligible for consideration. The employee consistently performs in a professionally acceptable manner and successfully interacts with persons in the campus community. Favorable distinction from others; personal conduct reflects favorable on him or herself, the Department of Public Safety and The Ohio State University. Continually strives to be better informed; seeks self improvement opportunities.
